NanoRAM is a Doctoral Network funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) in the Horizon Europe programme of the European Union. The NanoRAM consortium is formed by 19 organisations across 12 countries, with the goal to train 14 new researchers.

A winter meeting in Copenhagen

The doctoral candidates and their supervisors come together for an extended weekend in Copenhagen. Despite the cold January weather, spirits were high and the discussion flowed from early morning at breakfast till late night in the bar. The workshop started with a welcome by project coordinator Mingdong Dong and manager Lasse Klausen, followed by a tightly packed programme with scientific lectures as well as team building events.

Ricardo Garcia gave a captivating account of the history and use of scanning probe microscopy for soft matter research, followed by an exciting introduction to optical microscopy by Michelle Peckham. Next, a poster session gave the DCs an opportunity to present themselves and their work.

The focus of the first NanoRAM training workshop was getting to know each other and forming connection, which was well presented when the DCs discussed what they were interested in obtaining from the project, as visualised in the wordcloud below:

Time for socialising

After two busy days with a focus on the science, the workshop finished with a trip to the old Carlsberg Museum and a guided tour of the brewery and laboratories. The evening concluded with dinner and high expectations for the next meeting in Madrid.
